Pratham, IIT Bombay satellite aboard PSLV C34 ..

For the first time from IIT Bombay, Pratham, the 10.2 kg satellite of app 30 cm cube designed by a 30 member student team from IITB will be one among the eight payloads (incl the main payload, the 377 kg SCATSAT 1 and five satellites from US, Canada and Algeria in two diff orbits of 730 km and 670 km altitude) getting lifted to a sun synchronous polar orbit of 670 km on Monday Sept 26 at 9:12 AM from SDSC, Sriharikotta .

Every day at 11.30 am, Pratham will cross over India for the next four months and give the electron count in that part of the upper atmosphere ..

It makes great economic sense for US cos to launch complex light satellites through the ISRO work horse PSLV to polar sun synchronous orbits ..

Though UK scientists have downplayed our earlier launches and said, what's so great !,  it is a disgrace that the same smart people have not launched any on their own other than thru ESA ..

The disease is quite common, it's called - Envy !!

Nalanda, Taxila and Oxford Uty ..

Oxford U, the modern world's oldest U from UK, 800 years old, is back in global reckoning as top global Uty this year.

Oxford University, back to global #1 .. Rising from the ashes of Nalanda ..
Born from the ashes of Nalanda and Taxila in ancient South Asia,  the only ancient centres of learning of the world from 800 AD - 1200 AD, Oxford is the oldest centre of modern learning of 800 years.

It is quite sad that none of Indian Univs could find a decent place even in top 200.

It is also a great irony that these same top Univs and Institutions from US, Europe and South East Asia, lacking the necessary hi-tech environment, approach India for their advanced technology needs, (no match for India), like for example, to get their satellites launched from India.

We in India produce great institutions, scientists and technologists, wwe have been doing it for the past 1200 years, but what has happened to us now ?

Nalanda, India, the world's first learning centre
The question that should be at the top of the mind of any Indian academic should be, where do we lack and how can we get reckoned in the global top 10 ? Where do these same global Univs manage to manipulate to reach the top Univ list ?

Is there any role for the debilitating age-old customs, caste system and traditions in India that has been responsible for stifling scientific temper in the young Indian mind ? It is indeed a matter of great pride that Indian space scientists and nuclear scientists are among the best in the world. Our relatively new sociological experiment with democracy has borne success no doubt as with opening our economy to the world, following China.
Nalanda, global learning centre, 800 - 1200 AD ..
Will it be too far when India will once again be asked to give moral, ethical, scientific, technological and economic leadership to the world. Lets hope it will not be too far, as we are already in the last but two rungs of the global economic ladder and the next two rungs are well within our reach.

Global top 10 , IT presence ..

In just 10 years,  from one co. Microsoft Corp in the global top 10 by market capitalisation in 2006, by 2016, that number has swelled to 5 in the global top 10. Apple (1), Alphabet-Google (2), Microsoft (3), Amazon (6) and Facebook (7) .

Does that signify something ?

Alzheimer's day Sept 21

Good morning

WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY: SEPTEMBER 21
World Alzheimer's Day,

September 21st of each year, is a day on which Alzheimer's organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer's and dementia. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, a group of disorders that impairs mental functioning.

Every 68 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer's disease (AD). At current rates, experts believe the number of Americans living with Alzheimer's will quadruple to as many as 16 million by the year 2050.

Alzheimer's disease is often called a family disease, because the chronic stress of watching a loved one slowly decline affects everyone. 5.4 million are living with Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the World and the only cause of death among the top 10 that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.

With the increases in life spans and baby boomers coming of age, support for Alzheimer's research is more critical to our families than ever.

There are app 4 million AD patients in India from a population of 1250 million (incidence of 0.003 per million population), while there are 5.4 million AD patients in US with 315 million population (incidence of 0.017 per million population). India AD patients will touch 8 million by 2030 AD.

Per million population US is 6 times more likely to contract AD than India.

From symptoms, is AD an affluence disease ?
