Checkmating the Asian Dragon is on the agenda of US, which is perfectly suiting India and Japan, the growing democratic financial powers in Asia. While US is trying its strategy thru the AfPak region, it benefits India as more Indian troops can now be concentrated on its Eastern border with China.
The $ 3 trillions which US wasted in Iraq and is trying hard to gain a respectable exit from, only boosted Iran's stronghold in the region, much to the chagrin of US. Ensuring unfettered access to the oil passing thru the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic agenda for the US to retain its strong foothold in the region.
