BBC : Despite covering 70% of Earth's surface, potable fresh water is just 3% of global supplies. 

2.7 billion of the 7.5 billion people on earth (36%) have stressed water supplies, with one billion people (14%) lacking access to water. 

As per UN endorsed projections, these are the 12 cities around the world most likely to be in the grip of acute water shortage by 2030 AD, when demand will exceed supply by 40%.

Ever since land for the official residence of the President of the United States of America was selected by George Washington in 1791, building plan submitted by Irish architect James Hoban was selected. The corner stone was laid the next year and construction was completed by 1800 AD when President John Adams moved in.  

It is quite interesting that in the War between England and the American settlers, that started in 1812, the White House was set on fire in 1814.  The renovation after the fire was completed in 1817 and President John Munroe moved in the year 1817.

Except for some additions done in the nineteenth century and two minor renovations carried out by Theodore Roosevelt in 1901 and Harry Truman in 1948, the building that was formerly called The President's Palace, the Executive Mansion, President's Residence etc. has virtually remained the same.

Solar panels costs and capability .. India case

Some approximate values for commercial installation of solar panels in India.

• 1 KW panel takes approximately 10 sq metres area.
• 1 KW generates approximately 4 units of power daily. 
• 1 KW costs approximately Rs. 50,000/- for installation
• It takes about 4 panels per KW power.
• The life of the panels is approximately 25 years
• The life of the system is about 25 years.

Solar panels in India comes at a cost of approximately Rupees 50 lakhs for 100 KW.

A 100 KW solar system thus generates about 400 units per day, ie. 12,000 units per month or 144,000 units a year. At about Rs 8.60 per units, this translates to benefits of Rs. 12 lakhs a year.  

A 1 MW plant would thus result in capex costs of Rs 5 crores and energy savings of approximately, 1.2 crores every year.  Ie in approximtely 4 years, the turn around time, the total capex costs would be paid off.

Isin't this attractive enough for entrepreneurs, especially the energy ones to open up retail energy stores across the country, selling power to end users either through the distribution grid or through the company;s own delivery and distribution network ?
