Real Estate is once again hitting news these days, for the wrong reasons.
Unless the government brings in serious, strict legislation to rein in these sharks, they will take control of all free land, bring untold misery to the real owners of the land, invite unnecessary and avoidable litigation, causing irreversible environmental damage.
Greed, over greed and hyper greed. These sharks who are into grabbing land from wherever through whatever maens, fair or unfair, legal or illegal, are out to make a quick buck.

Globalisation and a globalised corporation..
N R Narayan Murthym mentor at Infosys, in his book, " A better India, a better world", Penguin India, 2009 gives some excellent observations on globalization.
He notes that Globalization is about sourcing capital from where it is cheapest, sourcing talent from where it is best available, producing goods and services where it is most efficient, and selling where the markets are, without being constrained by national boundaries.
Globalization provides the opportunity for every nation to offer the best value-for-money products and services in the global bazar without being restrained by bureaucracy, political hindrance or xenophobia.
A globalized corporation as different from a multi national corporation (MNC) produces goods at one place for the whole world. Nike is such an example. Product development takes place where human talent and innovation are best, production takes places in factories situated in countries where it is most cost-effective to produce and sales takes place in countries with high disposable incomes.

Should political class be allowed to continue with corruption unhindered ?
The recent revelations of political corruption in the country with the accused going scotfree almost every time is a matter of concern ..
Karnataka in India is facing a peculiar situation in this cycle of corruption now in that the Government run by BJP does not want any interference from the Governor H R Bharadwaj, the representative of the President in exposing the misdeeds it is carrying out in the state from the day it took over power. It is using the very famous excuse of accusing the Governor to be a representative of the ruling party and the like in its futile efforts to absolve itself of guilt from wrongdoing.
The common man in the state is fed up with this double standard from the Chief Minister and his cronies who have been amassing money in crores in corrupt land deals and illegal mining by exporting iron ore mined from the Bellary hospet areas in the state.
The interest shown by the Lokayuktha Retd Justice Hegde to prevent this rape of the state left and right by the BJP politicians, and his endorsement of the sanction accorded to prosecute the CM on a complaint filed by two lawyers against the CM and which was sat on by the Governor for almost three weeks asking for original documents from the Chief Scretary, has caused a lot of embarrassment for the party.
"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" is indeed very apt in this context. Having tasted power, the poorly educated CM, has taken very personally the very thought of having to vacate the seat of power. The Central leadership of the party having failed once in its attempots to force him to vacate the CM's chair, is in a dilemma how to contain this menace for some more time .. His threat that any attempt to dislodge him can antagonise the Lingayat community in the state and potential loss of political power in the state has caused the central leadership to compromise on political values. For the party it is a situation where, "Kaichittu irakkaanum vayyaa, madhurichittu thuppaanum vayyaa .."
The politicans of the country as a group have been taking many things for granted, irrespective of part and ideology affiliations, of which the right to be excluded from any prosecution on corruption charges has been a pinprick for the executive and the judiciary.
As a common citizen interested in the growth and development of the state, this assumption of a "SemiGod" status by the political class and hurling of abuses on the executive, does not bode well for the state, its citizens and the country as a whole. If only the politicians had a little more sense, civility and education !

The Congress Party's reaction that the money stashed away is just money on which tax has not been paid and measures are on to recover tax for that money from the owners ( in this case of the 18 Indian accounts holding Rs 44 crores in the German bank of Leichstenstein with tax arrears of 25 crores) will not hold well with the citizens of the country.
The true fact is that the money is illegal money, plundered from the national treasury, the poor man's money, which is stolen by the so called respectable citizens of the country. They should be treated like criminals and handed the most exemplary punishment possible so that they do not resort to such gimmicks again in future, even if it includes respectable politicians, dead or living of the ruling or opposition parties, bureaucrats and industrialists ..
National wealth stashed away by influential and corrupt Indians in accounts abroad amount to roughly Rs. 20 lakh crores to 70 lakh crores ( a lakh is a hundred thousands and a crore is a hundred lakhs) ie. Rs. 70,000,000,000,000, 7 followed by thirteen zeros !!!!!!!!!! It could well pay off our national debt and pay for all infrastructural projects of the country for the coming many years ..
Political parties are indeed raking up the issue which is good for the country and the economy. Dr Manmohan Singh will be doing the country great service through his transparency moves, which no other goverment has done before, by exposing the corrupt who have stashed away their ill-gotten wealth abroad. Even the present opposition while in power, never pursued the matter of tracking out the corrupt and their ill-wealth, with all the seriousness and sincerity it deserves.

Jairam Ramesh, the Minister of Environment and Forests has declared the LAVASA housing project near Pune as unauthorised. The stinking rich are using real estate projets as an excuse to park their dirty funds. Dumbos among them have been investing in projects like Adarsh Housing society in Colaba and Lavasa near Pune. Much to their chagrin they have found a politician, deviation from the usual corrupt, a rare commodity, who does not give into money, power and influence. A very welcome signal in the Indian political scenario.Two days back he stated that the Adarsh building, the 32 floor unauthorised structure that has come up in Colaba on naval grounds violating all environmental and security norms should be pulled down. It is followed today by his declaration that HCC sponsored LAVASA housing project near Pune is another unauthorised one. The dirty rich and the crooked politicians are finding this minister to be slightly inconvenient for them.
But I should say that the whole country and its sensible people are behind him as they know he can never go wrong with his very advanced understanding and analysis of events and implementation of remedies as enshrined in the Indian constitution benefitting the common man and the government.
How else can an IIT Bombay BTech with advanced degrees from Carnegie Melon and MIT go wrong ? The nation has a lot to learn from him ..

70 lakh crores of Indian black money stashed abroad ?
The figure is mind-boggling. I do not know what is preventing the government from recovering this black money robbed from the poor man in India and taken by the spineless rich, corrupt businessmen, politicians and bureaucrats to safe havens abroad.

Lenient RTI staffers rob the exchequer of Rs 86 cr ..
Right to Information (RTI) is a very unique act in the country which empowers each citizen of the country to call for required information from any public authority ( meaning people who are taking salary from the tax paid by each and every citizen of this huge country). For this reason all govt employees are being looked at as servants of the people and not their masters !!
For this matter it is the Cabinet Secretary at the Centre and the Chief Secretaries from the states who are the lead servants and all other employees are lesser servants ..

If a govt servant fails to respond to a query from a common citizen within a period of a month, he/she has to pay an amount as fine ..

Welcome to this portal. RTI is working because of penalty clause. Any violation will not only attract financial penalty of Rs250/- delay per day maximum Rs25000/- per application, disciplinary action can be ordered by the Information Commissions. There is separate and independent authorities in place all over India [exclg J & K]. Attempts are being made to dilute implementation by vested interests and RTI activists are strongly resisting such efforts.
It is said that RTI staffers have been lenient and have not collected the fine @ Rs 250 per day from public servants who have not supplied the relevant information to the public and this uncollected backlog has increased to Rs 86 crores.
It is the fear of imposing penalty and disciplinary action which is the most important factor for the public servants to part with information and conduct themselves properly the next time. For the effective implementation of RTI, fines need to be collected from the wilful defaulters by the RTI functionaries without fear or favour.

A meeting with HE Governor of Karnataka, Dr Hansraj Bharadwaj.
It was a pleasant meeting with HE The Governor of Karnataka, Dr H R Bharadwaj at the Karnataka Rajbhavan on 12 Jan 2011 along with our Chairman Dr Thomas John and Campus Director Wing Commander (Retd.) P Sambasivan.
The wealth of knowledge he possesses and the extensive reading he does was very evident from the ten minutes interaction we had with HE. His three books on the Indian legal system and the new one comparing the different religions shows his academic leanings to that of a bureaucrat. He lauded the educational initiatives taken by the minority run Institutions in the country which helped in the growth and development of the country.
The meeting was to invite him to the college for the Annual Day celebrations where he will be addressing the future generations of the country, the youngsters.

Biometrics at T John College ..
Biometrics has been introduced in T John College from 11 Jan 2011. This afternoon I gave my fingerprints which will help the attendance register machine register my attendance from tomorrow onwards.
TJC has not been back at all in adopting new cutting edge technologies. This will avoid staff members from registering their attendance through proxy with the help of their colleagues.

Fuel efficiency in Tata Indica Xeta ..2006
Even though Tata Motors claims officially in its advts that Indica Xeta gives a mileage of only 14 kms /litre of petrol, I have been getting about 14 kms in the city per litre of petrol and approximatley 20 kms for long distance travel on my Tata Indica Xeta 2006 model.
I must confess that the maintenance is very minimal, I just change the engine oil every 15000 kms and engine coolant once in a year, with regular topping with water, gear oil change once in 2 years or so. My drive is also about 30 kms /day in Bangalore city at max 60 kmph speed. Careful driving without any unnecessary acceleration and braking.
In both my trips to Kerala in May 2009 and Dec 2010, I have got on an average app 20 kms to a litre of petrol. That works out to Rs.1500 one way ( in May 2009 a litre of petrol was costing Rs 55 while now it is Rs 63. )
Even though I drove for about 12 hrs with max 60 mins break in between for bfast and lunch, at the end of the day, I never felt the strain. Was feeling as fresh in the evening as I was when I started my trip with family.. I speaks a lot of the suspension system and the very comfortable seatings and ample leg space inside the car.
I may not be able to compare this vehicle with Mercs or Audi, but defintely Tata Motors does offer value for the money ..

Facts about CET on Wikipedia ..
One fact which I cherish and which was one of the top points of CET was the IBM mainframe in the campus when we joined the course ( as per my knowledge only Anna Uty, Kerala Uty and IISc Bangalore had mainframes in the campus then, not even IIT Chennai). PV Ramachandra Menon sir who took computer programming for us made us work on the old type writer data input terminals in the computer centre working in FORTRAN programs on punched cards. I also remember how after giving a set of punched cards we used to go to class or the canteen , coming after an hour or so to get the output.
When we were about to leave the college in March 1986 or so, the first desktop machine came to the computer dept and we were allowed to just have a glimpse of what desktop machines were then !
The experience on mainframes has given so much confidence in IT and related areas for us from CET that we are good as any computer science engineer on IT subjects .. With a little effort, understanding IT topics is smooth sailing for us ..

Flipkart is a recently started online (book) venture by two former amazon.com employees Sachin and Binny Bansal, IITDelhi graduates and operating out of Bangalore.
The site is already the top online booksite in India with almost 2000 books being despatched daily to customers throughout India at huge discounts ranging from 10 to 30 % with free delivery.
I have already placed orders for 4 books and two have been delivered already. The other two will come in two days time. Their service is good, packaging world class, simple uncluttered interface, payment portal very good, search is very convenient and fast processors at the back end enable quick placement of orders. Both debit and credit cards from major banks are being accepted at the site, besides payment on delivery option..
I request all my friends and colleagues to at least visit the site and encourage this entrepreneurial venture from these youngsters and help them succeed and make this world's no 1 online portal. They also deal in games, music and mobiles .. I have not ventured into that domain.
I have earlier done business with rediff, firstandsecond.com, indiatimes,com but this site is different, very simple and elegant. Great benefits too, why should I visit sapna bookstore(the largest in Asia, as it claims), near to where I stay in Koramangala, when I can get the same delivered at Rs 150-200 less, straight to my home !
