Poor British policies and it's aftermath on India .

Impact of poor British administration of India and it's aftermath

Going through historical documents archived across the world, we are shocked by the fatal implications of some dumb British policies. A little knowledge of history is needed for every Indian as we would otherwise get sucked to blind western adoration. Some greatly fatal implications of dumb British policies as recorded in history are mentioned here for our consumption.

A Bengali family on the verge of death by starvation
1. In 1870, due to poor British planning, there was a famine in the Deccan and South India in which 17 million people died of starvation.

2. In 1901, Bengal had the greatest famine, again spearheaded by dumb British policies in which 19 million people died of starvation.

3. The Bengal famine again in 1943 saw another three million people die of starvation even after a bounteous harvest when food grains were directed by Winston Churchill for the British troops fighting for Britain and allies (India and China had no causative role in the war to be subject to any suffering from it).

Thus the 39 million people who died from starvation in India due to poor British policies  is more than six times the number of Jews killed in the Jewish Holocaust in the second world war. How many innocent lives were blighted by the British in India ?

Mike Davis in his book "Late Victorian Holocausts" mentions upto 29 million Indians having dies in the famines set by the British on Indians, which again is 4.5 times the number of Hews killed by the Germans in the second world war. In fact it is very difficult of any other colony in a period of 200 years having suffered so much unilatareal damage like India.

The British injustice on India is thus unpardonable. Even though the past three hundred years of colonial rule brings bitter memories to our minds, India is ready to forgive and forget.

It will take some more decades for India to climb out of the deep pit of social and economic mess the British has pushed us into.

The resilience of the Indian economy is evident from the fact that Indian economy now is third largest in the world, and is four times the UK economy (UK economy hitting a low #9) ...

This link from the BBC tells the whole story ..

From mid 1740s, English East India company started trading with India, yes 200 years, correct. The earlier 100 years were the Portuguese and Dutch to a little extent. Our smart forefathers who resisted the Portuguese till the Coonen cross oath in 1653, somehow fell for the British.

Recorded civilised history of Europe has only Greeks around 500 BC. The Europeans were a nomadic tribe then. Clearly a group of uncivilised white skins who had got down from trees just a millennia earlier !

In the 200 years in India, the British engaged in cruelly subjugating and demoralising Indians to such an extent that native Indians still carry a halo around their British cruel masters, not yet ready to call a spade, a spade ..

The fact that some of us still are supportive of British rule in India shows the broad mindset of tolerance and forgiveness, hallmark of the great Indian culture and civilization.

We  Indians are so tolerant and forgiving, we bear no hatred against any race, region or dogma and that is our strength too..

Pl watch this 10 min video from my YouTube  channel on India's growth over the past seventy years, in all spheres of human activity. The hairs on your skin will stand straight ! The mighty, infinite potential of India is just waiting to be tapped !!

Vasudaiva kudumbakam, a Sanskrit phrase from the Maha Upanishad (conservatively more than 3500 years old) meaning, "the world is one family" ..

ISRO to launch 103 satellites in a single launch ..

With proven, time tested and reliable capability, ISRO is getting ready to launch 103 satellites, nano, micro satellites all included, in one shot by end Jan 2017, into a single orbit. This is about twice the number of 37 satellites in an earlier world record launch held by China two years back.

The fact that India is a very strategic space partner of US is evident when we get to know that of these 103, 90 satellites are for United States. As technology gets advanced, satellites get smaller, lighter and more powerful.

The crude question is  *Does not US have low cost processes and technology to launch these satellites for domestic ambitious, high tech companies ?*.

Once the domestic private tech ecosystem within India develops enough, to warrant such launches, there will be a flurry of activity then ..

Clearly India, slowly and steadily, is establishing itself as a global space power to be reckoned with.

A great example of how a public sector organization is bringing prestige to the country !!

Jobs and skills of the future ..

A child today can expect to change jobs at least seven times over the course of their lives – and five of those jobs don't exist yet - World Economic Forum

World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Swiss based non-profit foundation which is the world's most respectable gathering of public-private business leaders numbering about 2500 from across the world, who meet once in a year in Davos Switzerland and regional meetings in six to eight locations every year from Latin America, Africa, East Asia, China, UAE and so on.

According to the report from World Economic Forum editor Stephanie Thomson, 35% of skills needed five years later have not been defined yet.

The important skills needed are listed here. Next generation teaching should impart skills in the below given five broad areas, besides the conventional areas of knowledge.

1. Data Literacy - ability to collect, collate, analyse quantitative and qualitative data, mining, predicting future trends .. Being able to understand the technical concepts of data and information, Big Data, to understanding the different media of data collection (FB, WA, Twitter Google search etc..), storage ata Farms..) and retrieval (Database Management systems) Presentation, dissemination (emails, blogs) etc. are very important.

2. Soft skills of empathy and positive attitude - empathising with others, trying to be in their shoe and finding what are their feelings and how one can carry people along with oneself. Every

A negative thinker sees a difficulty in every opportunity while a positive thinker thinks of an opportunity in every difficulty
A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of circumstances having power over you ..
A positive attitude changes everything
"It's fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure." - Bill Gates

3. Innovative skills employing critical thinking and adaptability to apply concepts and ideas, problem-solving techniques across different sector, learning and relearning .. Learning is a life long process..

4. Collaborative skills involving leadership, flexibility and teamwork. These skills are best acquired outside of classroom setting maybe on a trekking expedition, games, athletics, doing internships, social service and the like ..
I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep, I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion - Alexander the Great, (356 BC - 323 BC)

5. Entrepreneurial skills to develop ideas to commercial success and create value in society.

The best way to predict the future is to create it  - Peter Drucker, management guru
The most valuable thing you can make is a mistake, there is nothing you can learn from being perfect. - Peter Osborne
60-80% of all new jobs come from small businesses (or startups), which grows BIG !!

Five of the so called non-existent jobs mentioned earlier in the write-up will be from the five broad areas given above ..

Tata Sons - difficult times ..

The sacking of Mistry came as a shock to Indians on Monday evening.

Mistry was taking home INR 15 crores every year besides another 130 crores annual dividend on his 18.5% shares in Tata Sons ..

Many points played a major role in the sudden decision by Tata Sons top mgmtm. Tata Sons turnover fell from $108 billion to $102 billion in the last three years, inability to get Tata Corus steel back on track, a $1 billion fine on Tata sons in a feud with Docomo, and a conscious thinking to wind up some non-core business activities, added fuel to the flame of discontent within top mgmt. TCS and Tata Motors were the only profitably working cos in the Tata Sons stable ..

At 78, will the Patriarch Ratan Tata be able to steer India's and wotld's most trusted and respected brand back to profits and cheer ?

The nation is full of positivity for this great brand !

Lingo kid Ravi Kumar at Hanging gardens, Mumbai.

Its amazing and unbelievable !  Having spent almost six years in Mumbai and having gone to Hanging gardens many a time, my sister stays nearby, I fail to understand how I missed out this smart kid. See how this kid, selling at the Hanging Garden, Mumbai can speak several foreign languages !

Ravi giving the TEDx talk ..
When asked why he was not interested in gaining formal education, Ravi told that in the conventional system he is constrained to learn only few languages, while here with full freedom, he has learnt about ten languages. If Ravi was born into a  good family, and he could get good education and support, this intelligent boy would have made India proud in some spheres of life !! ..

It is still the greatest mystety of life, who decides into which social background we are born ?

Grown up lingo kid Ravi, now in 2016, still sells fans near Hanging gardens Mumbai as in 2006-7.

Ravi has even given a TEDx talk ..

Blood donation..

Was lucky to donate 350 ml of O+ blood to Narayana Hrudayalaya this morn from church.
NH is very professional as to how they collect blood. They divide blood into three groups, plasma (life of 1 week),  platelets ( life 3 days) and packed cells (life 1 year) if stored at -60 deg C. ..

Most of the people have a morbid fear of blood donation, it comes out of inexperience and ignorance. If you are leading a balanced life with no self-destructive tobacco and liquor consumption habits, blood donation is just like any other human activity. I have been donating every since I was 20 years for the past 32 years, blood donation is very relaxing and an anti depressant too.. The good thing is I have been able to motivate many students from the educational institutions where I have been teaching to donate blood.

It is said, a blood donation has the benefit of running 2 full length, 41 km marathons !! Keeps one healthy, active and agile !

Bangalore has a full length international marathon happening this morn, 15 oct, 2016 !!

Since I gave to Narayana Hrudayalaya. I know it will reach needy people and will be processed and kept in the highest levels of hygiene and safety ..

Hoping to hit 50 before I stop blood  donation!

Blood donation has known health benefits like lower risk of cancer, helping maintain body iron levels to healthy levels, thereby reducing heart and liver ailments.

Bill Gates on Climate change, TED talk..

William Henry Gates III (commonly known as Bill Gates) through this Feb 2010 TED talk proposes an interesting multiplicative model of global CO2 emissions of people (P), services (S), efficiency (E) and CO2 emissions per unit energy (C).

CO2 = P.S.E.C

Not much innovation is happening to control the first three, people, services and efficiency. He believes Carbon capture of fossil fuel emissions, nuclear energy and renewables of wind, solar photovoltaic (using semiconductors) and solar thermal (using mirrors to focus energy) hold the promise to contain CO2 emissions per unit of energy generated ..

Interesting insight from the Sultan of IT who is in the process of transitioning as a saviour to prevent climate change !

Innovating to zero emissions!

Why India should beware American overtures.

Insensible and self seeking Indians have migrated to the US, getting future generations to lose their Indian identity and mix with the great American mosaic ..

What befalls a country and people when they align with US ?

Click on this video .. https://youtu.be/WeBU_IKcq2Q

This is what happens to any country that aligns with USA.

Utter degradation, depravation, flourishing drug trade. stifling  democracy, diseases, internal strife, growth of communalism, full of paranoia at others growth, bunch of demotivated people looking up to the military to run a failed country ..

US has met it's needs and is getting ready to dump this once faithful old time ally. The nascent US culture is getting ready to align with the oldest civilization of the world, India ..

India, beware ! By getting close to US, a very myopic outlook, you are befriending the most dangerous and most untrustworthy ally in the history of the world !

Energy 101 MOOC ..

Great way to be informed and learn..
From the time I took the course on power plant engineering at CET in my btech mech Engg final semester, never got a chance to learn more on energy.

Thanks to the *Energy 101* MOOC ( massive open online course) offered by Prof Sam Shelton from Georgia Tech thru www.coursera.org, I found there were so many energy innovations and incremental developments that have happened globally.

Energy usage is only bound to increase in the coming years as the standard of living of communities and countries improve.

Some of the popular MOOC providers..
It took me about 8-12 hours in total sitting over three days to complete the course.

The quizzes at the end of each video added to the excitement (I had to score min of 80% in all quizzes as a precondition to finish the course) was a great motivator to help finish the course with flying colours.

Thanks to Prof Sam Shelton, Georgia Tech mech Engg Dept and Courses for coordinating to put together such an excellent primer on the contemporary global energy scenario and the future challenges.

Hope this will be a motivator for others too to engage in life long learning !!

Benefits of coconut oil. .

Welcome the heavenly nectar, coconut oil. Olive oil, please stand aside..

Lot has been said of the benefits of coconut oil to the human body and it's potential to cure Alzheimer's disease, and the larger memory loss disease called Dementia..

The state of Kerala in India itself is named as the land of coconuts (Kera meaning coconut in malayalam..). Because of the superior diet rich in coconut oil, Malayalis have among the lowest rates of Alzheimer's disease in the world.

Pl watch the 2 Youtube videos given here .. (trying to establish the authenticity..)

Valuable lesson for China .

With Pakistan's isolation in international arena on promoting and encouraging terrorism against its neighbors and Western nations, has China earned itself an inglorious reputation by backing Pakistan ?

Should and can China think straight in this regard ? Will India be able to extract it's pound of revenge for the 1962 humiliation it suffered ? 👍

Will China ever learn from its mistakes or continue to join hands with Pakistan to dig it's own grave ? 😳 Either way suits us ..
