Let us shift the nuclear plant to Bandra / South Mumbai .. Lot of water which can be desalined for cooling .. Moreover that coast is not highly prone to tsunamis ..
The land owners in Bandra / South Mumbai can be given compensation for their land at govt rates and asked to relocate to Jaitapur / central Maharashtra ..
All this while, the poor farmer had to give up his land and relocate to other places. This time let us give chance to the urban dweller to claim compensation for his land, relocate elsewhere and offer the good fortune for people living in nearby Central Mumbai areas to share the risk of radiation in case of a nuclear disaster ..
Why should only the poor bear the brunt of development and its after effects !! Let us give a fair chance to everybody !!

New Delhi in the news for the wrong reasons ..
First New Delhi was infamous for rape, then it was for corruption and now it is for a superbug ..
NDM-1, New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase I has hit the world scene bringing disrepute to India. As the co-author Mark Toleman of Cardifff University, in the article that appeared in The Lancet claims, it is the general lack of basic hygiene and the unregulated use of anti-biotics by the population that is seen as the main reasons for the emergence of the supergene. Does that anyway give scientists and the editorial board of Lancet to defame other cities and countries of the world ?
The authors of the paper which appeared in the very respected medical journal The Lancet in April 2011 had detected the supergene in samples of drinking and seepage water in Delhi. as per research evidence available till date, this supergene is a hospital-borne infection and not water-borne. It was very much against ethical research on the part of Toleman to name it after New Delhi as if Delhi is the most unhealthiest place in the world, or was the first place in the world to detect a supergene. MRSA ( Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) was the first supergene to be detected and causes almost 20,000 deaths in US alone every year. Nobody named that supergene after New York or Washington DC !!
Another contention against naming the supergene after New Delhi is that only 20% in our country can actually afford antibiotics. The critical mass needed in a population for the superbug to emerge from overuse or wrong use of antibiotics is much higher than this percentage.
Toleman claims he does not know much about the origin of NDM-I supergene. Even then to name it after a city infers some mischief played by Toleman and his team to defame a country or its people.
If one were to look objectively at facts, one can understand that it is indeed a wakeup call for Indians to get out of their slumber, care for the cleanliness of one's surroundings and the environment. I recollect an IIMA professor once writing, we Indians are privately smart and publicly dumb, meaning to say that we take care of our immediate surroundings, home etc, but care least for public places and our neighbourhood areas which remain as dirty and filthy as ever ..

Ashok Kheny to build most modern stadium at Bangalore ..
This modern stadium can seat upto 90,000 people. Kheny , already owning many toll highways in US and known for his project management expertise in Indian context has great disregard and utter contempt for corrupt politicians and bureaucrats
http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/report_bangalore-will-get-its-second-and-most-modern-cricket-stadium_1532107
To carry out this work, Kheny does not need any government funds than the permission to start a project a this huge scale.
Hope he does it fast, date is 2013, and shows the government what the private sector can do in this country given the opportunities and permissions.

The plight of people's representatives at JanLokpal bill draft ..
The plight of the people's representatives at the meeting of the drafting committee of the Janlokpal bill was miserable. The public elects one set of representatives who are there by authority to rule.. They have access to all the revenues of the government and decide on how that is to be spent. The public have to get another set of representatives to see that the first group do not overstep their limits, do not eat away all the money and set aside some for development.
Both the groups are elected by the people themselves, These two groups then discuss how things should be managed so that the interests of neither is compromised, ie. the first set of representatives to spend the money and the second group that it is spent gainfully for the public.
Don't you see there is something fishy in this whole exercise ?? Let us have just one set of representatives, those who truly represent our interests in the government and through the government the people. We need to recall the representatives if they are non-performing.
The JanLokpal bill should as a first point exercise the right to the public to recall the representatives !! Only that can bring accountability in the whole exercise.
As this movement spearheaded by Anna Hazare is claiming to stress time and again, the public are the MASTERS, the politicians whom we elect to represent us at the various legislative bodies are just our SERVANTS. Faithful servants will be liked by the masters, unfaithful servants will be thrown out !
The public is not interested in any vested interests diluting or reversing this role of the masters and servants. That is the strength of the Indian democracy and it will stay ..

We are the maliks, dear politicians, you are the sevaks ..
"We are the maliks, you are the sevaks .." the words which are ringing in the ears of each and every Indian looking for a change the way India is governed. Thanks to the movement spearheaded by Anna Hazare, we now have a team of 5 civilian and govt representatives each to draft the Lokpal bill.
Anna Hazare's demand that the proceedings of the committee be telecast live on National TV has got some of the govt representatives angry and concerned as they do not want to be seen in the public eye as supporting corruption. Their contention is that if the proceedings are telecast live, they would not get a free and fair chance to deliberate on the merits and demerits of the bill in length and confidentially before arriving at a consensus, lest they be misunderstood. In fact, the politicians need not be concerned as it the people of the land who have sent them to the legislatures and parliament and they reserve all right to decide what to do with these servants of the public.
Saturday 11.30 AM have to wait and see if the proceedings would be telecast live.
Let the $1.4 trillion of National exchequer money stashed away by our spineless politicians, bureaucrats and industrialists in Swiss banks be brought back to the country. Let all acts of corruption, from 2G, CWG, all purchase of lands by politician s across the country in different states using and misusing their positions of influence and authority for their personal pecuniary benefits be probed. Let the armed forces chiefs who cheated the widows of the Kargil war and got plush flats in Adarsh housing society be probed and made to surrender and forgo their investments.
This will set the ball rolling for more reforms and exposures and improve the functioning of Indian democracy and democratic institutions.
Let the politicians not forget that the public are the maliks and they are the servants. Over the past 60 years , the roles have reversed and their fundamental error in perception needs to be set right so that Indian democracy functions in all its grandeur and colour once again !!
