We are the maliks, dear politicians, you are the sevaks ..

"We are the maliks, you are the sevaks .." the words which are ringing in the ears of each and every Indian looking for a change the way India is governed. Thanks to the movement spearheaded by Anna Hazare, we now have a team of 5 civilian and govt representatives each to draft the Lokpal bill.

Anna Hazare's demand that the proceedings of the committee be telecast live on National TV has got some of the govt representatives angry and concerned as they do not want to be seen in the public eye as supporting corruption. Their contention is that if the proceedings are telecast live, they would not get a free and fair chance to deliberate on the merits and demerits of the bill in length and confidentially before arriving at a consensus, lest they be misunderstood. In fact, the politicians need not be concerned as it the people of the land who have sent them to the legislatures and parliament and they reserve all right to decide what to do with these servants of the public.

Saturday 11.30 AM have to wait and see if the proceedings would be telecast live.

Let the $1.4 trillion of National exchequer money stashed away by our spineless politicians, bureaucrats and industrialists in Swiss banks be brought back to the country. Let all acts of corruption, from 2G, CWG, all purchase of lands by politician s across the country in different states using and misusing their positions of influence and authority for their personal pecuniary benefits be probed. Let the armed forces chiefs who cheated the widows of the Kargil war and got plush flats in Adarsh housing society be probed and made to surrender and forgo their investments.

This will set the ball rolling for more reforms and exposures and improve the functioning of Indian democracy and democratic institutions.

Let the politicians not forget that the public are the maliks and they are the servants. Over the past 60 years , the roles have reversed and their fundamental error in perception needs to be set right so that Indian democracy functions in all its grandeur and colour once again !!
