Antartica ice starts giving way....



An iceberg which was on the west cost of Antartica, Wilkin's ice shelf, more than 1500 years old, about 440 sq km area just gave way yesterday to disappear into the waters of Antartica. It was in 1989 earlier another 1000 sq km had just disappeared.

Considering that the summer ice melt is common in this part, the Wilkin's ice shelf of such a vast area is not such an out of the way phenomenon. It is a grim reminder of things to come....
