Cattle fairs and cattle .. IIM Placements ..
It was astonishing to hear about the comment on IIM placements by Tata Sons HR Chief Mr Pradhan.
Cattle fairs with cattle dressed up and painted like fresh cattle, it was very demeaning to paint the brightest minds in the country in such disgraceful words. It is indeed true that value of the IIM graduate is determined by the money he gets in the market, irrespective of whether he is selling toilet soaps, washing powder or brooms ..
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/education/news/IIM-placements-are-like-cattle-fairs-says-Tata-Sons-HR-chief-Satish-Pradhan/articleshow/10875561.cms
Let the IIM students realise that it is not the money which matters, do something personally satisfying and useful for the country, pursue entrepreneurship and the like .. It is not the MNCs which matter, but the Indian industries which contribute to the growth of the country, be change agents in society, don't waste your brains, lest we hear more demeaning remarks from other heads of industry, damning and degrading to the MBA community as a whole.
Let not IIM graduates bring disgrace to the MBA community in the country ..
IIM Directors needs training on leadership to lead their Institutes. Instead of producing high priced cattle, let them produce individuals with values. Let them be accountable for the public money wasted on these cattle.

Opening up of Indian retail market .. Welcome news ..
A big opportunity to benefit farmers ?
The opening up of the $ 400 billion Indian retail market to 100 % FDI in single brand retail and to 51% multi brand retail is sure to bring down wholesale inflation and help farmers in the country.
In cities with more than 1 million population, we are sure to see a spurt in purchasing. Efficient supply chains for the agri produce and other farm goods on a big scale is a blessing for the country.
With more than 10 million jobs to be created and ten times that to be displaced, we are not sure what the social impact of this move is going to be. But change has to be welcomed with open hands and future is always uncertain.

London School of Economics, Meghnad Desai and Saif al Islam Gaddafi ..
Saif Al Islam Gaddafi, Engineer, MBA, (plagiarised) PhD from London School of Economics (bought for 300,000 pounds). Meghnad Desai, the Supervisor, must be a sad man these days having his politically influential, fraud student facing the gallows, if not the hand of the common man seeking to take revenge for crimes against fellow Libyans in the name of helping preserve his father's cruel regime..
LSE returned the money and fired the Dean ..
Next time LSE will be doubly careful when handling such influential sons of dictators from the Arab world. What fate befalls Saif, the whole is waiting to see with baited breath !!

Biggest container ships of the world ..
Comparing tankers and containers .. |
Eleanor Maersk E-class, 397m long ( almost 4 football pitches wide) and 56 m wide, able to carry almost 15,000 TEU ( Twenty feet Equivalent Units) containers, the biggest container ship in the world. With a DWT 109,000 T and 156,000 Gross tonnage itmatches with its sisters Emma Maersk and Ebba Maersk
Usually it is found making the Asia-Europe run, presently the world's busiest route, between China and Netherlands making the journey in 3 weeks time. Each TEU can carry about 35,000 T-shirts taking the cost of transporting a T-shirt at just 2.5 cents.
With the rising cost of fuel, larger and larger ships are the only way to make a profit.
At about $ 700/TEU freight, shippers are looking at economies of scale to survive in the highly competitive world of world commerce and trade. With decreasing demand in Europe, the demand for container transportation is found to be declining now, June-Aug 2012, resulting in a crash in the container rates ..
