Nalanda, Taxila and Oxford Uty ..

Oxford U, the modern world's oldest U from UK, 800 years old, is back in global reckoning as top global Uty this year.

Oxford University, back to global #1 .. Rising from the ashes of Nalanda ..
Born from the ashes of Nalanda and Taxila in ancient South Asia,  the only ancient centres of learning of the world from 800 AD - 1200 AD, Oxford is the oldest centre of modern learning of 800 years.

It is quite sad that none of Indian Univs could find a decent place even in top 200.

It is also a great irony that these same top Univs and Institutions from US, Europe and South East Asia, lacking the necessary hi-tech environment, approach India for their advanced technology needs, (no match for India), like for example, to get their satellites launched from India.

We in India produce great institutions, scientists and technologists, wwe have been doing it for the past 1200 years, but what has happened to us now ?

Nalanda, India, the world's first learning centre
The question that should be at the top of the mind of any Indian academic should be, where do we lack and how can we get reckoned in the global top 10 ? Where do these same global Univs manage to manipulate to reach the top Univ list ?

Is there any role for the debilitating age-old customs, caste system and traditions in India that has been responsible for stifling scientific temper in the young Indian mind ? It is indeed a matter of great pride that Indian space scientists and nuclear scientists are among the best in the world. Our relatively new sociological experiment with democracy has borne success no doubt as with opening our economy to the world, following China.
Nalanda, global learning centre, 800 - 1200 AD ..
Will it be too far when India will once again be asked to give moral, ethical, scientific, technological and economic leadership to the world. Lets hope it will not be too far, as we are already in the last but two rungs of the global economic ladder and the next two rungs are well within our reach.

Global top 10 , IT presence ..

In just 10 years,  from one co. Microsoft Corp in the global top 10 by market capitalisation in 2006, by 2016, that number has swelled to 5 in the global top 10. Apple (1), Alphabet-Google (2), Microsoft (3), Amazon (6) and Facebook (7) .

Does that signify something ?

Alzheimer's day Sept 21

Good morning

WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY: SEPTEMBER 21
World Alzheimer's Day,

September 21st of each year, is a day on which Alzheimer's organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer's and dementia. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, a group of disorders that impairs mental functioning.

Every 68 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer's disease (AD). At current rates, experts believe the number of Americans living with Alzheimer's will quadruple to as many as 16 million by the year 2050.

Alzheimer's disease is often called a family disease, because the chronic stress of watching a loved one slowly decline affects everyone. 5.4 million are living with Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the World and the only cause of death among the top 10 that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.

With the increases in life spans and baby boomers coming of age, support for Alzheimer's research is more critical to our families than ever.

There are app 4 million AD patients in India from a population of 1250 million (incidence of 0.003 per million population), while there are 5.4 million AD patients in US with 315 million population (incidence of 0.017 per million population). India AD patients will touch 8 million by 2030 AD.

Per million population US is 6 times more likely to contract AD than India.

From symptoms, is AD an affluence disease ?

Tata JLR

A luxury model of Jaguar cars ..
Finally it needed Indian skills and managerial prowess to urn around an WEnglish pride ..

A 2013 Telegraph report of the biggest turnaround in automobile history in the modern world. ...

A hundred years back we had English masters and Lords and culturally and intellectually superior Indians serving them as workers.
Just seventy years after freedom from the British, now we have Indian masters and Lords and Englishmen serving their Indian masters !

A loss making, troubled Jaguar Land Rover with labour problems and low worker productivity  was bought by Tata Motors around 2007-8 for app £ 1.3 billion.
The real Jaguar ready for a pounce.. ..

The global renowned Tata Motors, turned around the company where the "so-called" majors Ford (who had boughtJaguar) and BMW of VW group (who had bought Land Rover and later sold to Ford) had miserably failed.

The story goes this way - When Ratan Tata approached Ford top mgmt initially to buy Jaguar Land Rover from Ford, Tata was told bluntly by Ford that cos. making  small cars should never venture for big luxury cars and Tata should not ever dream of acquiring a luxury car company like Jaguar !

Ratan Tata took the insult positively.

Later finding that Ford was not managerially competent to turn around JLR, the same haughty Ford Management  approached Tata and "requested" him to buy JLR from Ford.

Ratan Tata took the challenge and showed Ford and BMW what Indians are made of. English workers and Managers are more than pleased and delighted to work under a highly competent, professional, benevolent, hardworking Indian top management..

The profits of  Tata-JLR  (before tax) had dipped from £2.6 billion by March 31, 2015 to £1.6 billion by March 31, 2016 despite record sales of more than half a million units due to a dip in China sales. As per latest reports, US sales has risen.

Wind Turbines and power generation ..

1500 MW Muppandal energy farm, Tamil Nadu ..
Energy is an inseparable component of modern day human life as we are dependant on electrical energy for almost all of our daily living systems, and on travel too, with electric trains and metro getting popular and fast with every passing day.

As the living standard of a society improves, its power consumption keeps increasing.

The basic parts of a wind power turbine.
It is found that a typical home in India on an average consumes 5200 KWh of energy every year, while a family of four in US consumes approx 28,600 KWh annually and a typical family in China consumes 15000 KWh per year. (2013 data)

The per capita energy consumption world average (as per World Bank data) is 3100 KWh, ie. a family consumes about 12400 KWh per year.

Click here for per capita energy consumption (World Bank data) for all countries of the world.

Wind energy tops the list of renewable power generators in India with Muppandal from Tamil Nadu and Jaisalmer from Rajasthan topping the list with 1500 MW and 1064 MW power generating capacity respectively.

Wind power generating is not time specific and can happen throughout the day and seasons of the year, unlike solar energy.
