China and US agree to limit CO2 emissions before CopenHagen UN summit ..

The Copen Hagen UN Summit, 7-18 December 2009, will see China also agreeing to reduce its CO2  emissions to 50 % of the 2005 levels by year 2020. But China uses a different measure of pollution standard which is directly related with the economic might of the country, ie GDP. Carbon Intensity is the amount of CO2 emitted for each unit of GDP.

US has agreed to reduce the CO2 emissions by 17 % of 2005 levels by year 2020.

Pressure is thus mounting on India the other major international player to come up with some limits to bring down CO2 emissions.
