------------------------------

The presentations were  very good. Dr Bala Bharadwaj took us through the C17 Globemaster III series of transporter aircraft manufacture , the product development life cycle. He spoke on how the complexity in the Globemaster manufacture could be handled by preparing for the Malcolm Baldrige Award. And they were finally successful both with Globemaster and Malcolm Baldrige award. Dr Bala also spoke of the delay of the 787 Boeing Dream liner aircraft. He was of the opinion  that the delay in 787, if any , was due to supply chain problems in the system. What Boeing thought the supplier understood and what he supplied were different resulting in inordinate delays in the manufacture. We also need to wait and see how the new Chinese commercial aircrafts will be a threat the established cos like Boeing and Airbus in the future.

Mr. Manjunath from MOOG technologies, who are also suppliers to Boeing, took us through the quality problems which his organisation faces daily and how they have overcome it. He spoke of Data Quality, right from capturing data to using it.

Mr. Vijay Srinivas gave an exciting talk on Lean Implementation in Quest. Mr. Vijay through many instances spoke of how difficult it was to implement lean and and reduce waste in services compated to manufacturing. The concept of e-5S was indeed very interesting. The cycle time reduction initiative, combined with the introduction of the Quality month helped them exceed customer expectations in many of their initiatives. He also stressed on the adage - RIGHT FIRST TIME, EVERY TIME ..

It is good that ASQ and Quest engg have jointly taken the pains and effort to organise this event for the benefit of the quality professionals and academics of the city of Bangalore
