When we compare the Onam celebrations of people settled outside Kerala and outside India too, I was listening to the Malayalis in Delhi , they were telling that the festivities for them will last for another two months. Depending on the availability of people and non clash with onam festivities of nearby reas, different societies celebrate onam now onwards for a period of a month or more. Mostly either on Saturdays, the flower Rangoli, followed by cultural programs and the traditional Onam lunch ..

Onam in Kerala for two days, elsewhere festivities last 2 months ..
It is interesting to note that Onam in Kerala is important only for the first onam and the second Onam which is also called Thiruvonam. Some houses do have pookkalam ( rangoli with natural flowers) for another week or so.. The festivities in kerala get over by day 2 of the Onam season..
